Got several quotes before we went with GBC and we're so glad we did. Our project manager Sel was terrific and made sure that everything was done to the highest standard, even doing additional work that went beyond the scope of the project. Highly recommend this company for your kitchen remodel - great price and great work! We even had several follow up projects for them and they did the same great job again so they are pretty consistent. Highly recommend!

We could not be happier with our experience with GBC. When the only bathroom in our 80 year old condo had a serious plumbing issue we decided it was time to finally renovate the entire bathroom. I frantically called over a dozen companies. Ray from GBC came over the following morning for a consultation/estimate and we immediately felt confident in working with him (even our skittish cat stayed out in the room with him there). After meeting with a few other companies for estimates we knew going with Ray and GBC was the right decision. He kept the showroom open late to accommodate us in order to get moving as soon as possible and helped us swiftly pick everything that would go into our new bathroom. He worked late into the evening to get us the proposal that same night.
Just days later work started and we met Sal our project manager as well as Alex who captained the crew. Alex and his team did phenomenal work, and immediately responded/addressed minor issues that arose along the way. Sal was always a text or call away for our questions and concerns. His professionalism and diligence were everything we could ask for in our project manager. Our price quoted was the final price we paid, materials and craftsmanship are all top notch, timelines were expedited and kept. The crew cleaned up well after themselves but GBC also sent a cleaning crew for a final touch up/polish.
We will absolutely return to GBC for any projects in the future, thank you so much to the entire team at GBC Kitchen & Bath!

Updated on Sept to 5 stars:
Follow up service was very good. Appreciate Sal coming by very promptly to follow up on a couple of items.
Original:
This is the 2nd time that we have worked with GBC because we had a very good experience doing a kitchen renovation at our previous home with them before. This time, we renovated two bathrooms at our current house. Overall, we had mostly a positive experience & would consider working with them again.
Pros:
1) Both bathrooms turned out beautifully and we were happy with the quality & look of the finished product.
2) Our designer Fabien who we worked with before was very attentive to our needs and worked with us on our budget. He's very friendly and was a pleasure to work with again.
2) At the start of the project, Fabien, our project manager Sal and crew all met with us at our home to walk through the logistics of the renovations and were very professional & transparent about timelines and what we could expect.
3) Crew was polite, cleaned up at the end of the day and was very respectful of our home.
4) GBC is a one stop shop which we preferred so we didn't have to source materials from different places. I'm sure that there is a built in premium for that in their pricing but they were still pretty reasonable compared to some other quotes that we got.
Cons:
1) They crew came from relatively far away so they didn't get started until about 10am and left around 6pm - a bit tough when kids came home from school but nothing we couldn't work around. It would have been helpful to know their schedule when we were signing the contract - but not a huge issue.
2) There were a couple of instances when we waited at home for the tilers to show up and had to call. We were told that they had a passport appointment in one instance or weren't coming that day. Helpful if we had proactive communication that morning.
3) Unfortunately, we did have a big issue after the renovation of the bathroom on the main floor was completed. The crew alerted me that water was coming up into the shower when the toilet was flushed. They'd just finished the renovation in that bathroom so I called the plumber the next day as the project manager told me that I would need to have the drain cleared. The plumber snaked the toilet drain line and dislodged a rag but indicated that they needed to have the sewer tech check it with the camera the following day. Subsequently, that tech saw additional blockage with another rag beyond the point that the snake could reach. They had to use a high pressure jetter to push the rag out of the line, and told us that it would have recently gone down there otherwise we would have had a major sewage backup before. We never had any problems like that since we bought the house in 2021. I had to follow up a few times with the GBC project manager as we were baffled as to how this could happen and didn't own any rags like the ones that were snaked out - nor were we using the bathroom since it was being renovated. I didn't hear back from GBC until I got a text that they wanted the 3rd payment at which point the project manager .said that he would ask the crew about the rags but I didn't hear back on that until a few weeks later. In good faith, we made our payments and paid in full when both bathrooms were done. However, the plumbing issue cost us an addition $3,000 out of pocket. Eventually, GBC worked with their insurance and indicated that we will get approximately $900 back from the insurance. I asked if they would cover the rest and were told that they would not. As mentioned, this is the second time that we have worked with GBC (total spend of ~$80,000 across the two sets of renovations). However, we were disappointed that the issue was not taken as seriously as we would have expected. Nor did they take any responsibility for this though the timing of the issue was very curious and we knew that the crew used rags for different purposes. Either way, it is what it is but left a bit of a sour taste with us because of the way that this was handled.

Our bathroom is beautiful. Project prep was awesome and the construction crew did a fantastic job on our primary bathroom. They laid down temporary rugs so they don’t track dirt through the house; vacuumed and mopped when they were done each day and asked clarification questions all throughout the entire remodel. We look forward to having our guest bathroom redone by GBC.

[vc_tta_tour style=”outline” color=”black” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”What is the hardest part of finishing a basement?” tab_id=”1727870364121-e513ffeb-b916″]
The hardest part of finishing a basement in South Riding, VA, is often managing moisture control and waterproofing. Basements are prone to water intrusion, humidity, and mold growth, which can lead to long-term damage if not addressed properly. Professional basement remodelers in South Riding, VA, recommend starting with a thorough inspection and fixing any leaks or cracks in the foundation. Proper sealing and installation of a reliable drainage system are crucial steps.
Another challenging aspect is managing low ceilings and designing around existing structures such as HVAC ducts, plumbing, and electrical wiring. This requires careful basement design planning to maximize the space without compromising aesthetics or functionality. Working with experienced basement contractors in South Riding, VA, can help navigate these challenges and create a customized solution that suits your specific needs.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”When should you not finish a basement?” tab_id=”1726472807511-53fea536-d6f5″]
Finishing a basement in South Riding, VA, might not be advisable in certain conditions, including:
Persistent Water Issues: If your basement has ongoing water intrusion problems, such as flooding or foundation leaks, it’s best to address these issues first. Investing in waterproofing and drainage systems before any remodeling work is essential.
Structural Concerns: Basements with structural issues, such as cracks in the foundation or compromised support beams, should not be finished until repairs are made. Structural integrity must be assessed and corrected by professionals.
High Humidity Levels: High moisture levels can lead to mold and mildew, creating an unhealthy environment. Addressing ventilation and installing dehumidifiers can help, but it’s critical to solve any underlying issues first.
Limited Budget: If your budget is tight, consider postponing your basement finishing project. Quality basement remodeling services in South Riding, VA, require an investment in proper materials and skilled labor, which are crucial for a successful outcome.
Waiting until these problems are resolved ensures that your finished basement will be a valuable and safe addition to your home.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the best ceiling for a basement?” tab_id=”1725535435937-5b82d291-2d0b”]
The best ceiling for a basement depends on your goals, budget, and aesthetic preferences. Here are some popular options used in basement finishing projects in South Riding, VA:
Drywall Ceiling: A drywall ceiling offers a smooth, clean look that blends seamlessly with the rest of your home. It’s an excellent choice if you’re aiming for a polished and finished appearance, especially in a custom basement remodel.
Suspended or Drop Ceiling: This type is practical because it allows easy access to plumbing, electrical, and ductwork while providing a neat, finished look. It’s also available in various styles, including tiles that mimic wood or tin for a more decorative touch.
Exposed Ceiling: For a modern, industrial look, consider leaving the ceiling exposed and painting it a dark color like black or charcoal. This option provides a sense of height and openness, making it popular in contemporary basement design.
Consulting with basement contractors in South Riding, VA, can help you choose the best ceiling type based on your specific requirements and style preferences.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the cheapest way to cover a basement ceiling in Virginia?” tab_id=”1725628998998-134a2261-7d23″]
The cheapest way to cover a basement ceiling in South Riding, VA, is by using painted exposed ceilings. This approach involves painting the existing ceiling joists, pipes, and ductwork, typically in dark colors like black or gray, which can create an industrial and modern look. This is a popular choice for affordable basement remodeling projects because it minimizes labor and material costs while providing a stylish finish.
Alternatively, fabric or drape ceiling options can be cost-effective and easy to install. These involve hanging fabric panels or using lightweight materials to create a softer, more decorative ceiling appearance. While not as durable or polished as drywall or drop ceilings, it’s a quick fix that can add some visual appeal without a high price tag.
For those looking to balance cost and aesthetics, using reclaimed wood panels or low-cost ceiling tiles are other budget-friendly options that can enhance the overall look of your basement makeover.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the cheapest way to insulate a basement ceiling?” tab_id=”1725628966375-1767103a-3dc1″]
The most cost-effective way to insulate a basement ceiling in South Riding, VA, is using fiberglass batt insulation. This type of insulation is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and widely available. It helps to reduce noise between floors and improve the energy efficiency of your home. When installing, it’s important to secure the insulation properly and cover it with a vapor barrier to prevent moisture buildup.
Another budget-friendly option is spray foam insulation, which provides excellent thermal resistance and helps seal gaps and cracks in the ceiling. Though slightly more expensive upfront, spray foam offers superior insulation and air-sealing benefits, which can save on energy costs in the long run.
For those looking for an eco-friendly approach, recycled cellulose insulation is also a viable option, though it requires professional installation. Consulting with basement remodeling experts in South Riding, VA, will help you find the most cost-effective insulation solution tailored to your needs.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the best color for a basement ceiling?” tab_id=”1724680283598-d4d13817-ee14″]
The best color for a basement ceiling often depends on the desired atmosphere and the height of the space. Commonly used colors in basement remodeling projects in South Riding, VA, include:
White or Light Gray: These colors help reflect light, making the basement feel brighter and more spacious. It’s ideal for basements with lower ceilings as it opens up the space visually.
Black or Dark Gray: Dark colors are perfect for exposed ceilings, giving a modern, industrial look while hiding ducts, pipes, and imperfections. Dark colors can create a cozy and intimate environment, especially if the basement is being used as a home theater or entertainment area.
Soft Neutrals: Soft beige or pastel tones can create a warm and welcoming feel, making the basement more comfortable and inviting.
Choosing the right color can enhance your basement’s overall design and complement the existing decor. For professional advice, consider consulting with basement design experts in South Riding, VA, who can help you achieve the perfect aesthetic for your finished basement.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the most expensive part of finishing a basement in South Riding, VA?” tab_id=”1725973348506-cdfaf56b-601c”]
While costs vary depending on your specific choices and the scope of your project, some aspects typically represent a larger portion of your basement finishing budget in South Riding, VA:
Adding a Bathroom: Incorporating a bathroom into your basement significantly increases functionality and value but also adds plumbing, electrical, and fixture costs.
Addressing Moisture Issues: Ensuring a dry basement is crucial. If your basement has existing moisture problems, addressing them with proper waterproofing, drainage solutions, and potentially a sump pump installation can be a significant upfront expense.
Egress Windows and Doors: Building codes in Loudoun County often require egress windows and doors in finished basements for safety reasons. Installing these, especially if they involve cutting into concrete foundations, can add to the cost.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”In what order should you finish a basement?” tab_id=”1724680491884-bb9bf07f-7d50″]
Following a logical order during your basement finishing project in South Riding, VA ensures efficiency and minimizes disruptions. Here’s a typical sequence:
Planning and Design: The crucial first step involves defining your vision, setting a budget, creating a functional layout with the help of expert basement design in South Riding, VA, and selecting materials.
Addressing Structural and Moisture Issues: Before any finishing work begins, it’s essential to address any foundation cracks, water infiltration, or moisture problems. This might involve waterproofing, drainage solutions, or structural repairs.
Framing: Walls and ceilings are framed using wood or metal studs, creating the layout of your basement rooms.
Rough-In: This phase involves running electrical wiring, plumbing pipes, and HVAC ductwork through the framed walls and ceilings.
Inspections: Local building codes in Loudoun County often require inspections at various stages, including framing and rough-in work, to ensure compliance.
Insulation and Vapor Barriers: Insulation is installed in the walls and ceilings to improve energy efficiency and comfort. Vapor barriers are added to prevent moisture issues.
Drywall Installation: Drywall is hung on the walls and ceilings, creating a smooth surface for finishing.
Flooring: Your chosen flooring material is installed, whether it’s carpet, laminate, vinyl, tile, or another option.
Painting and Trim Work: Walls and ceilings are painted, and trim work, such as baseboards and moldings, is installed.
Fixture and Appliance Installation: Lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets, showers), and any appliances (wet bar, kitchenette) are installed and connected.
Final Touches and Cleanup: Final details like switch plates, outlet covers, and door hardware are added. A thorough cleaning completes the project.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How do I budget my basement to remodel?” tab_id=”1724680283598-cb20f63b-d810″]
Creating a realistic budget for your basement remodel in South Riding, VA, is essential:
Determine Your Scope of Work: Clearly define what you want to achieve with your basement renovation. Will it be a basic finished space or a high-end living area?
Research Costs: Gather information on material costs, labor rates for basement contractors in South Riding, VA, and permit fees in Loudoun County. Online resources and contractor consultations can provide estimates.
Prioritize Spending: Allocate funds to essential items like addressing moisture issues and structural repairs first. Then, prioritize your desired finishes and features based on your budget.
Contingency Planning: Set aside a contingency fund (10-20% of your budget) for unexpected expenses that may arise during the project.
[/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How do I prepare my basement for renovation?” tab_id=”1725955349400-784c918d-6756″]
Proper preparation ensures a smoother basement renovation in South Riding, VA:
Clear the Space: Remove all belongings, furniture, and stored items from your basement.
Address Existing Issues: If you have any known moisture problems, foundation cracks, or plumbing leaks, have them professionally repaired before starting the renovation.
Check for Hazards: Inspect for any potential hazards like asbestos insulation or lead paint. If found, hire qualified professionals for safe removal.
Plan for Utilities: Determine if your existing electrical panel, HVAC system, and plumbing lines can handle the demands of a finished basement. Upgrades might be necessary.

While some experienced DIY enthusiasts might tackle portions of a basement remodel, it’s generally recommended to hire professional basement remodelers in South Riding, VA, especially for:
Structural Work: Framing, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work often require permits and inspections. Mistakes in these areas can have serious consequences.
Moisture Control: Properly addressing moisture issues is crucial for a healthy and functional basement. Experienced contractors have the knowledge and skills to implement effective solutions.
Code Compliance: Building codes can be complex. Hiring professionals ensures your project meets all safety and building regulations in Loudoun County.
